Outfit Ideas for Valentine’s

by Anh on February 10, 2013

Valentine’s Day is coming up this Thursday! Anyone doing anything fun? Whatever the case, I hope you have tons of fun celebrating the authentic love and friendships in your lives. If you have a special date this year, remember that you are beautiful in your own right and do not need to distract your date in any way with your body. There are plenty of ways to dress up that will show off your entire self without compromising anything. I decided to have some fun with collages and put together a few outfit ideas!

Brunch Date:

brunch outfit

I think this is a cute outfit for a picnic or any type of day date – or even brunch with the girls as your celebrate your friendships and sisterhood! I chose a pastel color palette to keep with the feminine touch without going overboard with the pink-ness that is associated with Valentine’s Day. The seafoam dress with lace overlay from Modcloth functions as a cute skirt in this outfit. The crochet sweater allows the pale pink button up to peek through, adding a fun and flirty vibe to the look. I added yellow peep toed pumps for a pop of color.

A Night Out in the City:

Ok so I created this outfit mainly because I just ordered the Damask skinnies from American Eagle Outfitters and cannot wait to style it. The print adds a subtle but fun twist to the regular black pants. So as I was creating this mood board I thought about what I’d wear for a boost of confidence for a night out in L.A. A leather jacket (this one is only $12.40!) adds an element of edge to any outfit, and pants help with my confidence because I don’t always have to be careful how I move about as I would with dresses and skirts. I like the sequinned collar detail of this white blouse (when wearing white, don’t forget a bottom layer if it’s see-through! Strappy heels make this outfit a bit more feminine, and the heart stud earrings pay tribute to the holiday. I realize there’s a lot of black here, so feel free to go with bold red lips for your color element. That’s another way I like to convey confidence. Any woman can pull it off; the trick is to find the right red for your skin tone.

With Your Sweetheart:

This outfit doesn’t need much explanation – it’s the quintessential Valentine’s Day outfit (or even prom outfit I suppose). If you have a big date with your special someone, go with a super feminine dress like this Gilded Grecian Dress from Modcloth and pair it with sweet nude heels. Keep all the accessorizing simple, because the dress really should say it all. Don’t make the mistake of using a super short or low cut dress to distract your date’s attention, though. The perfect dress should flatter your figure but draw attention to your whole person – especially that beautiful smile on your face.

    Dear Anh,

I love how modest the first two outfits are on top, though I would probably pick a narrow skirt to lengthen the first outfit and the 3rd outfit’s dress seems like it would be too revealing on top because of the V-neck wrap style. Covering up the last dress with a thin cape (if it’s warm), or something could be a quick fix for the neckline. Then again, covering up kind of takes away the purpose of wearing a cute dress, unless it has a great skirt. So for myself I would just choose a dress that was more modest to begin with.

Thanks for the inspiration! Love the colors, by the way.
    God bless,
    Christina

Hi Christina! I was thinking the same thing about the last dress when I looked at it again after I made the collage. I had bought a dress from ModCloth not too long ago with a similar neckline and after safety pinning it strategically, it totally worked. But alone, you’re right it’s a bit low. Same with the hemline. I guess I decided to post anyway because I really liked the collage and the artistic side won over my rational side. Thanks for calling me out, girl!

Love the collages! I agree with the previous poster about the last dress, (it looks like an empire waist blouse, and not a dress to be honest ahha) but i love the inspiration boards overall!
